General Information

Trash cans must be inside or screened from the street, when it’s not trash day. Junk & rubbish is prohibited. Parking on the grass is not allowed. Cars must be
parked on gravel, asphalt, paved and/or poured concrete driveways.

Car sales are limited to 2 per year on your property. You are required to get a free permit, prior to placing it for sale at your property.

Building/Zoning permits are required for most projects: sheds, fences, pools, basement finishes, upgrades, remodels and alteration work; contact the Building Department at 616-842-5988, option 2 to inquire as to whether your project needs a permit before starting work.

Water and Sewer

Residential bills are sent quarterly.
Commercial and Industrial bills are sent monthly.

Codes on bill explained:

WR – customer service charge. This charge is for the upkeep and maintenance of the water system. All water users are charged this fee.

SD – Sewer Debt. This charge is for the upkeep and maintenance of the sewer system. Not everyone is connected to municipal sewer so, if you don’t have sewer, you will not see this on your bill. Water & Sewer is read in 100 gallons.

Rates: $80 for up to 4 hours + $50 refundable deposit.

* Additional hours may be added at the rate of $10/hour/shelter.

Township Cemeteries

Lakeshore Cemetery – 17200 Lincoln Street
Historic Cemetery – 12604 168th Avenue

Plots range in price between cemeteries and locations within
cemeteries.

Flowers may be placed May 1st through October 15th.
Winter décor may be placed November 15th through April 1st.

Area Information

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Harbor Transit offers on-demand public transportation in the Grand Haven Area including the Township. Call 616-842-3200 to schedule a ride or visit www.harbortransit.org.

RECREATION
North Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA) sports/activity information is available on NORA’s website www.norarec.org.

There are over 30 miles of non-motorized pathway in the Township.

YARD WASTE DISPOSAL
The Township offers a yard waste program every Spring and Fall. For dates each season, visit our website or call the Township Office.

From December 26th-January 31st, Christmas Tree drop off is available by the Township Fire/Rescue building at the Ferris Street entrance. This service is limited to Christmas Trees only; all lights and hardware must be removed.

MEDICATION DISPOSAL
A drop box, for expired medication, is located in the front lobby of the Grand Haven Charter Township Offices. Syringes can be taken to the Ottawa County Health Department,1207 Beechtree Street.

DOG LICENSES
Dog Licenses can be obtained at the Township Office or County Website. Please visit www.miottawa.org/DogLicense/Startup.action for specific information and required documents.

How to Make Payments

Miscellaneous fees can be paid at the Township Office, through regular mail, or deposited in the drop box located in our Administrative office parking lot.

Utility bills, building permits & property taxes can be paid at the Township Office, through regular mail, deposited in the drop box located in our Administrative office parking lot, or through the Township website.

ACH/auto billing options are available for property tax and utility bills. You can sign up through our website at www.ghtmi.gov utilizing our payment processing service (Invoice Cloud). Service fees apply.

Fire /Rescue

Fire/Rescue is the only Paramedic level fire dept. in the region.

Fire/Rescue Office Hours
Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm; Saturday: 8am-12pm

Burn Permits may be obtained during regular Fire/Rescue office hours. Burning is allowed once in either January, February, March and September. If you live in the rural area you may burn twice a calendar year in any month except October or November. Burning Permits may be obtained at the Fire/Rescue Office. Annual Fire Prevention Open House is held on the second Tuesday of October. Team 911 Academy is for teens who are interested in a career in Police, Fire or EMS. Please see our website for details.

Township Boat Launch

Odawa/Battle Point Launch – 14415 Mercury Drive

A permit is required for launching watercraft; including kayaks and canoes. Annual Permits are available at the Township Office. Daily passes ($6 each) may be purchased at the launch site.

Annual:
GHT Residents – $30
GHT Residents 65 and older – $20
Non Residents – $40

You must have your trailer license number and driver’s license to obtain an annual permit. Launching of boats greater than 28 feet in length or any commercial marine equipment is prohibited.

Property Taxes

Property Taxes are billed bi-annually; bills are sent July 1 and December 1.

Summer and Winter Deferments are available upon request, please call the Township offices for information at 616-842-5988, option 3.

If you own and occupy your home as your principal residence, you may be eligible to receive a tax exemption. Contact the Assessing Department at 616-604-6306 to request the required forms to determine eligibility.
